Assessments will range from homework to projects. The types of assessments are from an assortment of resources including Brahier, Marzano and associates and emerging technologies (such as blogs). The variety of the assessments is to get as accurate of a picture of the students understanding of a particular concept. Below are all of the types of assessments to be used for 2008-2009 school year.
Pre and Post Tests
This is the formal test format everyone is familar with in education. The tests will be brief never more than 10 questions. The pre-test will be adminstered before every unit and post-test will be at the conclusion of the unit. Both will be examined to see the students progress from start to finish.
Homework
Homework problems will consist of open ended questions. They will be questions that require the student to do more than a simple numerical answer. They will have to explain in a short answer form. These questions will occur at least two times a week.
Observations
Considering some of the performance/learning objectives have to do with the students behavior, checklists will be used during class. This will act as a gauge on students progress from week to week.
Projects
At least one project will be completed with each unit. A project is a driving question that will take the students a week or more to complete. This will enable me to see full range of students understanding.
Presenation Questions
During presenation of new material, questions will be asked immediately after to assess understanding. These questions will be forced choice or short answer to be answered with the response system.
Journal (Blog)
Students will keep a journal where they answer a prompt or expand upon a particular concept. Students will have a journal entry for every unit of study.
